reverberation, produces thousands of resonant peaks and valleys in the frequency response
extending to 20 kHz. During development of audio software to improve my 20,000-watt
home hi-fi system, I discovered that is what your ears really like to hear, not flat response,
meaning the same gain from 15 Hz to 20 kHz. The addition and subtraction of many sound
reflections constituting reverberation produces resonances. Thousands of carefully
controlled high frequency resonances added to the direct signal make instruments sound
musical and reduce audible imperfections in recordings.
In a real room or concert hall, sound absorption in air and at each surface attenuates
reflections at high frequencies, more and more with each successive bounce. Reverberation
has almost no effect above 5 kHz and its peaks and valleys in frequency response become
rapidly smaller above 1 kHz. In contrast BURWEN BOBCAT's high frequency reverberation
has its biggest effect above 10 kHz, where it is most needed.

1. The geometry of concert halls prevents significant reflections in the first 15 milliseconds
